Hitherbest Steps Up to Fundraising Challenge

Share

This April, volunteers from Hitherbest took part in a 250,000 step challenge to raise money for 3 local charities – Severn Hospice, West Mercia Womens Aid and Hilbrae Rescue Kennels

Friends, family and colleagues kindly came forward to offer sponsorship, which was matched by a donation from the company, bringing the total amount raised to in excess of £1,600 – a fantastic result!

The step challenge was a staff initiative which committed those participating to a minimum of 250,000 steps during the month of April. Volunteers were split into 3 teams and competed against each other to see which team could walk the furthest, with the winning team receiving the whole of the company’s matched donation for their chosen charity, plus a small individual gift.

Team Severn Hospice proved to be victorious with Tim Growcott (L), Keith Yorke and Pete Cope (R), pictured with Sam Haydon from Severn Hospice, walking 1,333,597 steps – equivalent to over 200 miles each. This was a fabulous effort which saw them walking before, during and after work in their quest to become the winning team.

Supporting the local community and staff wellbeing have long been viewed as strategic priorities for Hitherbest. The April step challenge brought staff together from across the company, working in different roles and on different shifts. There’s little doubt that, in addition to fundraising and encouraging a healthy lifestyle, initiatives like the step challenge help foster the team spirit that Hitherbest is so proud of. A team ethos is of real benefit in a fabrication business where many people need to work cooperatively during the manufacturing process and, importantly, also encourages staff retention.
