Laser cutting is ideal for parts with complex, curved or irregular profiles, or thick parts cut from low gauge steel. Hitherbest also runs a range of industrial saws alongside the laser. This widens the range of materials we can fabricate into finished metal structures.
Hitherbest’s in-house laser cutting service uses an Amada Quattro 2.5kW CO2 laser. It’s a precise, reliable machine for processing mild steel sheet up to 12mm thick. The Quattro holds a positioning accuracy of ±0.01mm, so it delivers strong dimensional precision and repeatability. This means the components we make consistently meet our customers’ specifications. That level of accuracy matters most where parts need tight tolerances, or where they’re being integrated into larger assemblies. The Amada Quattro can cut mild steel at speeds of up to 10m/min. So we can produce efficiently without compromising on cut quality. It also has a maximum cutting head repositioning speed of 30m/min. As a result, the machine keeps non-productive movement between cuts to a minimum, which reduces cycle times. Together, these capabilities let Hitherbest laser-cut one-off prototypes and larger production runs to the same standard of precision and consistency.
Clean cutting technology
As a CO2 laser, the Amada Quattro offers several advantages when working with mild steel. It produces a high-quality beam, which creates smooth, clean-cut edges with minimal spatter. That reduces the amount of secondary finishing needed before welding or powder coating. This holds true even on thicker sheets of mild steel, where excellent edge quality is still achievable. CO2 laser technology is well established in the UK, and this type of machine offers dependable performance when it’s properly maintained, with regular servicing.
Efficient material management
Alongside the Quattro laser, Hitherbest operates a range of industrial saws. We use these to cut steel and aluminium box section, angle, tube and bar. This extra cutting capability means we can process structural materials alongside sheet metal, so we can manufacture frameworks, beams and large fabricated assemblies too. With a range of saws on-site, we can manage materials efficiently and keep waste to a minimum. In turn, that helps us deliver cost savings for our customers.
