Cutting

Laser cutting is ideal for producing parts with complex, curved or irregular profiles or thick parts from low gauge steel. Alongside our laser cutting machine, Hitherbest owns a number of industrial saws, extending the range of materials from which we can fabricate metal structures.

Hitherbest’s in-house laser cutting service uses an Amada Quattro 2.5kW CO2 laser, which is a precise and reliable machine for processing mild steel sheet measuring up to 12mm thickness. With a positioning accuracy of ±0.01mm, the Quattro delivers good dimensional precision and repeatability, ensuring that the components we make consistently meet our customers’ specifications. This level of accuracy is especially valuable where parts must meet tight tolerances or be integrated into larger assemblies.

The Amada Quattro laser can cut mild steel at a speed of up to 10m/min, allowing efficient production that doesn’t compromise on cut quality. Combined with a maximum cutting head repositioning speed of 30m/min, the machine minimises non-productive movement between cuts, which in turn reduces cycle times. Together, these capabilities enable Hitherbest to laser-cut one-off prototypes and larger production runs with the same level of precision and consistency.

Clean cutting technology

As a CO2 laser, the Amada Quattro offers several advantages when manufacturing from mild steel. It produces a high-quality beam that creates smooth, clean-cut edges, with minimal spatter, reducing the amount of secondary finishing required prior to welding or powder coating. This is particularly true when cutting thicker sheets of mild steel, which can be achieved with excellent edge quality. CO2 laser technology is well established in the UK and this type of laser cutting machine offers dependable performance when the asset is managed effectively, with regular servicing and maintenance.

Efficient material management

In addition to the Quattro laser, Hitherbest operates a range of industrial saws. These are used to cut steel and aluminium box section, angle, tube and bar. This additional cutting capability allows Hitherbest to process structural materials alongside sheet metal, enabling the manufacture of frameworks, beams and large fabricated assemblies.

With a range of saws on-site, Hitherbest can practice efficient material management, so that as little metal as possible is wasted. In this way, we are able to deliver cost savings for our customers.
Hitherbest’s cutting capabilities are an integral part of the company’s service offering, alongside punching, folding, welding, assembly and powder coating. By combining multiple metal processing technologies under one roof, we can help our customers to simplify their supply chains, reduce their manufacturing lead time and costs.
