We specialise in rapid sheet metal punching.

The ideal choice for perforated fabrications

Punching is often the most cost-effective solution for those looking to fabricate a product from sheet metal.

At Hitherbest we have 2 rapid punching machines, including a state-of-the-art Trumpf TruPunch 5000, capable of 1600 strokes per minute.

Our machines are ideally suited to the fabrication of perforated parts, such as anti-ligature products destined for the health care sector, where they are a faster and cheaper route to production than laser cutting.

Punching is also ideally suited to the fabrication of parts requiring geometrically perfect cut-outs, such as circles and squares.

More than just punching holes

In addition to punching holes in sheet metal, the punching machines used at Hitherbest can undertake complex contouring and tapping, generate louvres, stand-offs and countersinks.

They can also be used for embossing work, which is an attractive method for branding products.

Our machines have:

  • a 2.5m x 1.25m bed size, able to accommodate sheets up to 4m in length
  • the ability to punch up to 6mm mild steel, 6mm aluminium and 2.5mm stainless steel
  • an extensive tool library.

Experienced staff

While punching machines are highly automated, enabling customers’ designs to be faithfully and consistently reproduced, experienced operators are still key to success. A skilled punch operator is essential to ensuring that these complex machines are set up correctly and that any quality issue is spotted and resolved as quickly as possible.

At Hitherbest, our punch press operators have over 46 years’ combined experience. This is just one of the reasons why Hitherbest has such an excellent reputation for quality, as indicated by our BSI certification to ISO 9001:2015.

    Frequently Asked Questions

At Hitherbest we offer both punching and laser cutting, so we are well-placed to advise.

There are a lot of factors to consider, including the type and thickness of the material, the profile of the fabrication, the shape and quantity of the cut-out sections and whether or not the finished part will be powder-coated.

Yes, we can! We have over 265 tools and can use them in an eye-watering number of combinations to create most shapes and forms. We are also happy to help customers by sourcing bespoke tools, if that is the most cost-effective option for their production run.

Some scratching and witness marks are an inevitable consequence of the punching process, although the amount of marking is greatly reduced when using the TruPunch 5000 thanks to its brushed bed.

Minor scratches are not usually an issue if a fabrication is to be powder coated.
